Jia Xiaoding: ENDLESS

2013.09.14 - 2013.11.09

Artist(s):Jia Xiaoding

Curator(s):Xu Chongbao

The materials used in Jia Xiaoding’s creative approach and artworks are not unprecedented novelty in the contemporary art practices. What intrigues us are his reluctance and struggle in using these objects as artistic material while attempts to emancipate the self and the objects. At his studio, it is almost impossible to distinguish which is raw material and which are artworks.

Some works were dismantled after they were completed, or the artwork no longer exists due to the expiration date of the objects, while the artist continues to work within this cyclical “temporality”. The colors and forms of his artworks are calm and solitary, his expertise as a designer over the years let him to hold a unique and sharp perspective on the ready-mades and their formal composition. We might not predict the future for Jia Xiaoding’s unprovoked creativity, although the relationships between objects, and objects to people are obviously not groundless, if not boundless.

Jia Xiaoding, male, born in 1979, Hebei Province, is now working and living in Beijing.
