Mirage: Sun Hongbin Solo Exhibition

2007.05.19 - 2007.06.17

The concept of trueness is the bedrock of Sun Hongbin's artistic language and thoughts. The nexus between reality and truth in physical space is the order of his observation and thinking. Practicing Taichi strengthens his body and will. Through this can he eliminate any fluster and fickleness during comprehending, perceiving and materializing his works. The truth in Sun Hongbin¡¯s photographs lies in its purified state. Heavy as it is, his language is a poetic and philosophic one. He tried to see the Goddess in the Moon, but the sand in the sky disappointed him every time. This is what he relates to us in his pictures.

Although their social role might be different in the secular world, visionary artists, poets and philosophers share the same ultimate goal. All forms of language will lead us to the pantheon of truth. Along this menacing journey, Sun Hongbin translates the unbridled, resentful language of Dostoevsky into a mild and mystical clang, expressing his ridicule towards a preposterous society while offering us moonlit meditation.
