2010.07.17 - 2010.07.31

Artist(s):Lu Zhengyuan

Curator(s):Tang Xin, Su Wenxiang

Lu Zhengyuan, born in 1982 and graduated from The Sculpture Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts. Works in this exhibition are closely related to a very important project during his study in the Academy: He created one piece of work each day in a period of 100 days. The artist started to reflect on them again this May.

This 100-day project expands the boundary of art and explores its relation with daily lives.During this project with a compulsory schedule, the artist has managed to get used to the tight schedule and create asubstantial number of works featuring subjects common in his daily life. This is a project that has transcended the boundary of art and has become integrated with the artist’s life. The challenge for the viewers is: Shall we look at these works from a macro-level and focus on the concepts or shall we appreciate them separately?

This series of works can be considered the results of Lu Zhengyuan’s effort to sculpt life. It is a commonly accepted rule that anything can be art. But Lu is trying to find out the answer to this question: which things can’t be art? The project, in fact, is still going on and it will only come to an end when the artist decides that he’s no longer physically fit enough to continue such intensive work. The Exhibition presents 30 pieces of work created during a month’s period in the project. This solo exhibition with a variety of works can almost be considered a group exhibition in its own right.
