Wang Zhenfei: CONTROL

2013.06.27 - 2013.08.17

Artist(s):Wang Zhenfei

Emerging architect Wang Zhenfei enters contemporary art production through space design and site-specific practices. His work caught the attention of Taikang Space and became the first participant of the exterior project, “Terrace”.In his installation, “Control”, conceived based on his experience of being an architect, intervenes the relationship between men and space from the perspective of contemporary art. Unlike the functionality of architectural experiments, “Control” builds a nurturing and transportable spatial system with rough cement and soil. The system controls the growth of grass root simultaneously in two ways. The first, “Complete control”, a 100 % totalitarian control of the status of the grass root (on the square, in front of the Taikang Space entrance), the other, in a market economy-like approach, that lures the growth of the grass root through complex steel networks (on the terrace of Taikang Space’s third floor).

Wang Zhenfei graduated from Berlage Institute in Rotterdam with a Advanced Master degree of architecture in 2007. As a cross-over architect, Wang Zhenfei is keeping in close touch with artists, designers and engineers from various fields.
