“Dark room” and “staging of pictures” are two major methods that have been commonly used in photography, presenting photographers with different possibilities and leading to two opposing directions. At the same time, they would provoke all kinds of questioning, thinking and studying. “On Site” by Cai Weidong depicts a set-up scene of a dark room, combining the two subjects in one single work. The figure by the side of the dark room reminds us of ways to stage an event, giving the work another layer of meaning and encouraging viewers to think about these most important issues in photography.
