Taikang Space’s project 51m2 was elected “Exhibition of 2011” by the Chinese website of ARTINFO

Taikang Space’s project 51m2 was elected “Exhibition of 2011” by the Chinese website of ARTINFO

"51m2 project is an exploratory project of Taikang Space that lasted for more than one year. It was rather experimental. 51m2:16 Artists showed up as a summery group exhibition. Our attention on it was due to our support for the whole concept of the project. The limitations that the group exhibition showed in the aspects of time and space weakened the strength of previous solo exhibition series as a whole and seemed a little bit disinclined. Luckily there is 51m2 Interview and a whole structure of concept withs a sense of time, which allows the attention to be stay on the clue of curation.”

Taikang Space publication 51 m²Interview was included in the Bookshelf Column of Leap (June Issue, 2011)

Taikang Space publication 51 m²Interview was included in the Bookshelf Column of Leap (June Issue, 2011)

"...If you ever read 51 m²Interview, maybe you’ll have a new evaluation of group exhibitions. The workload shown in 51 m²Interview is worth of approval and respect, because the questions that every young artist faced were customized. From the first question, the reader will be led into a different context. Of course, this might be a “false impression” created by the curator, but at least it proved his acquaintance with the artists and it cannot be achieved through one night. In the interviews, we see the close bound between daily dimensions and the artists. Almost when every artist talked about their works, it would involve some sort of possibility of the works. However, at present most artists among them only conveyed what they are not willing to do; they did not respond directly how to realize the so-called “possibilities”. Therefore, 51 m²Interview shows are all sorts of initial stages; compared to future possibilities, the current uncertain practical status can usually be accepted. Then what about the present? In the preface that Su Wenxiang wrote for 51 m²Interview, ‘The best way of expression is to try hard to support the ideas of the artists and help them to be shown and exhibited’. This is also what Tang Xin said about Taikang Space-it ‘encourages’ young artists, which reflects a hard-won conscientiousness. Only because of that, 51 m² already seems distinguished in Chinese contemporary art ecology.”

Taikang Space was elected one of the “Top Five Most Active Art Spaces of 2010” by the website ARTSLANT

Taikang Space was elected one of the “Top Five Most Active Art Spaces of 2010” by the website ARTSLANT

"After Taikang Space moved to the newly-extended space that is located at Caochangdi Art Zone, it soon became one black horse in the art circle in 2010. This non-profit art institute is financially supported by an insurance tycoon and is led by an excellent curator Tang Xin. Although its projects of the main exhibition hall are comparatively conservative, hopefully the situation will be improved next month. Taikang Space still won the competition against a lot of commercial galleries. All credit goes to its project 51m2. This project offers support to a large group of newly-emerged talented artists, including Wang Yuyang, Liu Chuang, Pei Li, Xin Yunpeng, Hu Xiangqian, Cai Weidong and Su Wenxiang.”
